Just thought I'd give the developer some love for how awesome this game is. Here are some of the things I think are great in it:
1. Gameplay is more like a puzzle than the traditional roguelike.
2. Strong "Learn the rules through trial and error" gameplay that reminds me of why I like games along the Nethack roguelike strain. In many ways though, I think this game takes that aspect of Nethack to an extreme.
3. Fun exploration aspect, where everything has a lot of personality. Monsters, spells and items all behave in unique ways and all can interact with each other logically.
4. Like the name suggests, an extremely strong spell system. At first it seems very simple and easy to understand (Like DoomRL), but it ends up being incredibly deep.
Anyways, just thought I'd thank the developer. This is one of the best new roguelike's I've played yet, and I really think because of both the simplicity and depth of the gameplay, that if I ever wanted to get people into playing roguelikes, I'd tell them to start out with this one.
Thanks! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. :)
What I liked about this game is the lack of annoying statistics. You feel like you're actually playing a game rather than a weak-ass math practise where the goal is to raise a number trough many hours of "grinding".
What really hooked me was the rather simple learning curve. Sure, understanding the more in-depth mechanics is trial-and-error but not the "we were too lazy to properly design and introduce our gameplay elements, so screw making a tutorial for our complex game and go figure it out in overly-lengthy dialogue boxes".
Unlike many games where I play a magician. I feel more than just a glorified archer with fancy arrows. I actually feel powerful and able to rely on my acquired powers rather than just clicking "fireball +32312" then drinking a mana potion again.
I also think that there is genuine potential in the spell system to make interesting things happen.
